Job Description:
We are looking for someone with experience designing, developing, and operating cloud native applications and services. This role will be a hands-on participant in projects intended to exploit cloud computing to deliver a better service for our customers. This role will be a member of project teams encompassing members from application development, security and infrastructure teams.
Responsibilities
Architecture / Strategy
- Work with business and technology stakeholders to understand our business needs and how our technology platform helps to deliver those needs.
- Provide guidance to teams on appropriate cloud implementation of the proprietary and third-party services that make up our technology platform. Help determine where a legacy solution should remain and where it should be replaced with an alternative.
- Define and manage a governance framework for consuming cloud services.
- Establish architecture standards for cloud-based applications for both new applications and transforming existing applications.
- Participate in technology leadership planning and discussion around platform and organizational growth.
- Represent HedgeServ technology group in vendor and partner meetings to ensure technical discussions are consistent with HedgeServ strategic direction.
- Communicate architectural direction within the organization through presentations, architectural models and working code.
- Collaborate with the Technology Leadership team, Principal Engineers, and Business Stakeholders to develop a Cloud Architecture Vision amp; Strategy aligned with HedgeServ’s business and technology direction.
Delivery and Execution
- As decisions are made, work with the team to implement those decisions. Be there on the ground as people hit roadblocks and work through them with the team.
- Take feedback from the team and, if new information is discovered, quickly incorporate that information into the architectural design and set a new direction forward.
- Evangelize technology and organizational approaches needed to deliver cloud native applications quickly, effectively and consistently.
- Work with teams to embrace and implement advanced architectural solutions.
- Determine an appropriate level of documentation amp; deliver it.
- Stay aware of the operations, processes and procedures of our growing cloud platform. Identify areas for improvement and work with teams to implement them.
- Create technical requirements and global architecture to govern the security, scalability, sustainability, cost and overall quality of our infrastructure, systems, content and data.
Team Building and Management
- Attract, hire amp; retain highly skilled architects.
- Assess skills amp; build career development plans for direct reports.
- Act as an expert advisor, coach and mentor across the technology organization on latest architecture principles and practices.
- Act as a point of escalation for teams facing complex technical challenges.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in application development or solutions architecture with increasing responsibilities, with at least 3 of those managing teams of 4+ architects and/or engineers
- Expertise building, deploying, and operating a technology platform in AWS
- A passion for mentoring fellow technologists
- A passion for solving business problems and using technology to enable business services
- A desire to, at various times, lead or participate in cross-functional teams and delivering projects using Agile development practices
- Experience with Continuous Delivery tools and DevOps practices
- Experience with Data Technologies such as Hadoop, SQL, Snowflake, AWS EMR, S3 and other AWS Data T
- Experience with automation technologies such as Chef, Puppet, Terraform and CloudFormation
- Experience with scalability technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Amazon ECS amp; EKS
- Experience with multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, C# and JavaScript
- Experience with microservices architecture
